Question/Issue
I'm trying to play FairPlay content on my Apple TV through iPhone AirPlay, but it doesn't play. What should I do?
Brief Description
Airplay functions supported by Apple mobile devices such as iPhones and iPads are divided into 'AirPlay Mirroring' and 'AirPlay Streaming', and FairPlay content can only be played through AirPlay Streaming.
Difference between Airplay Mirroring and Airplay Streaming
- Airplay Mirroring: A method of capturing the screen of a mobile device such as an iPhone and transmitting it to an external display such as a TV. Due to security issues, it is not possible to play FairPlay DRM content through mirroring. While AirPlay mirroring, the same video is played on a mobile device as on an external device (mirroring).
- Airplay streaming: A method of transmitting content from a mobile device to an external device such as an Apple TV and playing it directly on the device. FairPlay DRM must be supported on both devices if the content is protected by FairPlay DRM. During AirPlay streaming playback on an external device, the mobile device only displays the message 'This video is playing on xxx' and playback controls.
To support AirPlay streaming, the video player solution used by the app or web service must have the AirPlay feature enabled.
