Dear PallyCon customer,
We would like to inform you of our deprecation policy for the callback type DRM license integration.
‘Deprecation’ means that official support for the integration method has ended and updates to the new specification are no longer available.
Customers who are using the callback method can continue to use it without any changes for the time being. But in order to use advanced features such as detailed security settings for each DRM or security level control for each track of multi-key content, you need to switch to other integration methods such as 'token' or 'proxy' type integration.
Also, if the usage rate of the callback method among all customers significantly decreases in the future, the use of the method itself can be stopped after prior notice. In this case, we plan to help the customers who use the callback method with sufficient time to switch to other integration methods through guidance at least six months in advance.
For details on the callback method and its deprecation policy, please refer to the Q&A below.
-
What is the callback type DRM license integration?
: When a license request is received from the client device to the DRM server, the callback page built in the customer's backend system is called to check the content usage rights of the user or device.
-
Why is support for the callback method being deprecated?
: The callback type integration may cause various problems in the event of a communication failure between PallyCon's DRM server and the customer's callback page. Callback communication failures are caused by problems on the customer's callback server or network issues. Accordingly, the callback method has a disadvantage in that the rate of problems occurring due to factors outside of the PallyCon service is higher than other integration methods even during production level service after the initial integration test.
In addition, due to the nature of the multi-tenancy SaaS service in which multiple customers share server resources, a callback communication failure occurring in a specific customer can cause problems such as response delay in other customer services. So we decided to deprecate the callback method in order to improve the stability of the entire PallyCon service.
-
We are currently using the callback type DRM license integration. What should we do about the deprecation policy?
: You can keep using the callback as-is if you do not need the newly added DRM specifications such as detailed security settings and if your callback type integration is currently operating stably.
If the callback method becomes no longer available due to policy changes in the future, we will notify you in advance so that you can change the integration method with sufficient time.
-
What are the DRM license integration types other than callback?
: Token-based integration is generally recommended instead of the callback method.
In the case of the token method, the authorization of the user or device is handled through communication between the customer's service application and the backend server, not through communication with the DRM license server. After the permission check, the client application can acquire the license by sending a ‘license token’ generated by the backend to the DRM server.
In addition to the token method, a ‘proxy’ type integration is also available in which a proxy server of the customer’s backend relays the DRM license request and response between the client and the DRM server.
-
How do I switch to a different integration method?
: First, test token or proxy method integration through online guides and integration examples. A site ID can be added to your PallyCon account for development and testing, so that the new integration type can be tested without impacting your existing production service. (You can request it on the PallyCon Console)
When the test for the new integration method is completed, you can replace the existing callback method with the new method.
If you have any other inquiries about the deprecation policy and switching to other integration types, please contact us via Helpdesk or obiz@inka.co.kr email.
Thank you.
