On November 24, 2025, an issue occurred where Widevine DRM provisioning was not processed correctly on certain device environments, resulting in playback failure for Widevine DRM–protected content.
The issue was primarily observed on WebOS-based Smart TVs, with additional cases confirmed on Android devices.
Outage Time: November 23, 2025 22:30 ~ November 24, 2025 24:00 (PST, UTC-8)
Affected Symptoms
- WebOS: Failure to create or initialize the DRM Content Decryption Module (CDM), resulting in error 6002 and playback failure
- Android devices: Widevine provisioning failure during DRM session setup
ERROR_CODE_DRM_PROVISIONING_FAILED (6002)and DRM session initialization failure
Root Cause
- Global outage in the Google Widevine Device Certificate Provisioning service
- Provisioning requests sent to the following endpoint returned HTTP 429 – Too Many Requests during the outage:
https://www.googleapis.com/certificateprovisioning/v1/devicecertificates/create
The issue has been resolved by Widevine, and DRM initialization and content playback are now functioning normally across all affected devices.
